How Often Should I Post on LinkedIn®?

rfarrell00

One of the most common questions I hear from my audience is ‘When is the best time to post on LinkedIn®?’

When it comes to LinkedIn®, it is your posting frequency that can have significant influence on your visibility and impact. The key is striking a balance between being active enough to stay top of mind and not overwhelming your audience.

But how often should you post? The answer lies in your goals. Typically, there is no one single best answer for everyone and instead my exploratory reply will always begin with ‘It depends on your purpose, audience, industry….’

Tailor Frequency to Your Purpose

If you are building your personal brand, positioning yourself as a thought leader or keen to expand your professional network, consistency is essential. Posting relevant, engaging and value adding content twice or three times a week ensures you are active enough to remain visible, while maintaining quality. The all seeing, all knowing, always to be revered algorithms will recognise your efforts and reward them with reach.

For businesses or those promoting services, posting daily may be more effective in increasing engagement and reaching wider audiences.

However, be sure you do not sacrifice quality for quantity. Every post should offer value -whether it’s sharing insights, industry trends or a solution to a common problem in your field.

The Power of Consistency

LinkedIn® rewards regular activity, but remember, engagement matters more than just pushing content. Consistently posting engaging, relevant material not only strengthens your credibility but also builds deeper connections with your audience over time.

Know Your Audience

Pay attention to when your network is most active and adjust your posting schedule accordingly. What works for one person may not work for another, so stay attuned to the needs and behaviours of your audience. This may require a little experimentation on your part for a couple of weeks.

In my extensive research, I have read many conflicting papers and articles on the topic. Some advising that weekends are best, as individuals (particularly senior executives) are in relaxed mode with have more time to scroll and engage with their LinkedIn® feed. Other articles strenuously stating that you need to ensure you reach your audience on a Tuesday or Thursday between 11am and 3pm, as that is when they are most receptive to new information and engaging. I agree, both have merit, however, each is too restrictive.

Ultimately, how often you post on LinkedIn® depends on your objectives. Whether you are posting twice a week or more frequently, ensure your content is insightful, actionable, and aligned with your professional goals. Consistency and value-driven content are unquestionably your strongest assets on LinkedIn®.
